It is the evening of Thanksgiving, the food has been cooked, served and eaten, the good dishes cleaned, used and then cleaned again before being put away. I've already had my first plate of leftovers, enjoying the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans along with some gravy for extra flavor. And a home made roll, of course, with real butter, just to make sure I get enough carbs for the day. Since it was my husbands birthday today, we had cupcakes for our dessert instead of pie. Due to the novelty, the cupcakes are being devoured very quickly, at least based on my anecdotal memories of previous years. Unfortunately, I have not kept graphs to chart how quickly pies are eaten, perhaps next year.

Soon, the great Christmas shopping season will start, with Black Friday sales, perhaps its already started in some areas. I don't pay much attention to such things, and I stay away from large crowds, but according to my emails it is supposed to be an important day, perhaps the most important day, except for Cyber Monday, for buying something at a really great price.

In the meantime, before the madness of the shopping season starts, I am enjoying the quiet of the thankful season. With the events of 2016, I feel the need to look at my life, my family and friends, and make note of what I am thankful for. According to some, the apocalypse is just around the corner, while others claim we are on the verge of paradise on Earth. I doubt that both are true, but perhaps it depends on your point of view.

Anyway, I am very thankful for my husband and son, I'm not quite sure what I would do without them. I suppose I would survive, but I would not know the moments of joy that I have shared with both of them. There are also frustrating moments, those moments where I am annoyed and or they are annoyed with me, yet, those make the joyful moments so much sweeter. I am also thankful for my friends, while I don't always agree with them on issues, I am touched deeply by how much my good friends care for me and my well being. This sense of caring and love adds such wealth to my life, it is not something I want to take for granted.

Our family is healthy at this time, I am very thankful for that. I know of people who are not healthy in body and/or mind and who are suffering yet work to keep moving ahead. I hope I would do the same if we had some health issue, I am thankful that don't have to deal with doctors and hospitals at this time.

Finally, I am thankful to have this holiday, a time to focus on family and connections, it is my favorite holiday. For me, Thanksgiving focuses on sharing and connecting with those we love and appreciate what we have. I hope everyone else is as fortunate on this day and in the coming year.
